Fall 2017 Grades 6-8 Intermediate Short-Form Improv with Nick Gillette

INTERMEDIATE SHORT-FORM IMPROV
Students will continue developing their short-form improvisation skills beyond basics. Through a series of fun and engaging classes, students will utilize learned skills in developing characters and creating objects and environments with miming to play confidently in new improv games. The first half of the course will focus on the intermediate improv comedy skills and the second half will focus on playing and performing short-form games. The course will culminate in a live performance of a short-form set by the students. Pre-requisite: Completion of two sessions of Beginner Short-Form Improv at PHIT Comedy, or approval of the Kids & Teens Coordinator.

INSTRUCTOR
Nick Gillette

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Nick Gillette is a physical theatre artist, a co-founder of Almanac Dance Circus Theatre, and an instructor at the Philly Improv Theater. He is a graduate of the Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training, a 2014 New York Live Arts Fresh Tracks resident artist, a 2016 Colgate University Christian A. Johnson resident artist, and currently a resident artist at the Philadelphia School for Circus Arts. With Almanac he has collaborated to devise and perform Communitas (2014), Nightfall (2014), The Fleecing (2015), Leaps of Faith and Other Mistakes (2015), and Exile 2588 (2016). He has performed with Cabaret Red Light, BRAT Productions, Groundswell Players (now Lighting Rod Special), Pig Iron Theatre Co., Alex Bechtel, and the Philly Improv Theater.  

You can see him at PHIT every third Saturday of the month in The Wadsworth Constant, an improvised absurdist one-act play.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHING ASSISTANT
Kelly is thrilled to be a part of PHIT's Kids & Teens program! She is excited to bring her experience coaching tennis to kids, as well as her background in performance to PHIT's education program. In addition to a BA in Theatre Arts from Suffolk University, she is a graduate of PHIT's improv curriculum, and studied under Caitlin Weigel, Ralph Andracchio, Steve Kleinedler, and Nick Gillette, as well as Stand-up with Nicole Yates. She has also studied at Improv Asylum in Boston. Kelly is a member of PHIT House Sketch Team, The Decoy. When not at PHIT, Kelly can be seen in other stuff too! Recent credits include, Theater Unspeakable's The American Revolution, and 21st Ward Theater Company's The Meadow Festival.
